Eco-Building/Mudwork Area Renovation Photos
Here
is the site at the beginning of our renovation; an old seedhouse
framework unused for over ten years. Many agricultural materials were
layed about and weeds were free to grow thick:

We
began clearing the site of weeds and organizing the
agricultural materials into separate areas:

We
were left with a potentially excellent metal framework that had been
bent out of shape over time. To the right is a variety of
wild
and fruit trees that will be pruned back, interplanted with other
edible plants, and maintained as an indoor/outdoor garden for a future kitchen area:

So,
Shai from the municipality came to restructure the metal:

After
an excellent job, we used a gift of 80 meters of black lycra material
as a shade cover to allow for sun protection while we worked during the
summer day (notice that around this time we received a shipment of 300
strawbales!):

site!

Our first building project was raising a strawbale wall. We first filled tires
with styrofoam debris found during site clearing and began to lay the
bales:

We
layed each level in a "running bond" like brickwork for proper support
and inserted rope loops in between bales to install exterior pole
supports (Merav pictured):

Here's
how it looked from the exterior: We took the wall down at the end of the season.
